Obama says no to fat retirement accounts

Well, that makes sense then.  It never states that specifically in the article but there is a comment about "all tax favored accounts".  I'll be more concerned about this issue when I get up to 3 mil in my accounts.  I wonder if it is just one account or they add all of your accounts up?

Aetna's plan to avoid Obamacare for 1 mo...

Manny Nadelman - I'm sure if there was a free market for health insurance, we would see some great strides.  But, a great danger of government involved in insurance lies in the determinations of coverage and the liberties that can be affected.  I think tobacco is unhealthy, so we should ban it.  I think Big Mac's are b...more

Obama says no to fat retirement accounts

$100 mil in an IRA?  How did that happen?  The max contribution for 2013 is $5500 and going back a couple years has been $5000.  The government should let whoever has 100 mil in their IRA run the social security program.  They know that gets taxed when the money comes out, right?  That 40 years of ingoing, untaxed mone...more

The market farce is ending

dave1230 -  Did you know corporate debt is also at amounts unmatched?  It is nearly as much as the US federal debt (Forbes March 2013).  Assets minus liabilities = equity

I'm at 3% on my checking account.  It is an online checking account, so I don't write checks from it but use the debit card all the time.  You can search for banks in your area that do the same.

It's about habits, not education.  Number wise, we all can do the 5th grade math that leads us to a million bucks in the retirement accounts.  I know janitors that have exceeded that value in their retirement.  At least this article hammered on the fact we should put money away.  I don't agree with socking every penny ...more

I like how the second paragraph regards savers as "consumers".  All do consume, but we need to look at life from a little different angle.  What is our individual end results and how to get there with the tools that we have or can go get.  We will do a lot of consuming on the way, but we are building towards something....more

US is still paying Civil War benefits

I'm sure this has been thought of, but maybe we should have affluence testing of our government representatives.  If you make more than $100k/year, you get zero remuneration for your "civil services".  If you have over $1 million in assets, you are stripped of 90% of those exceeding that amount.  Cut the health benefit...more
