The hospital out of a matter of good will should wave the fee.  Insult to injury for this lifeguard just keeps rolling on.  This sure is an example of the saying, "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished".  Was the guy supposed to sign a waiver that he would be responsible for costs if he saves someone's life.  Get real!
