Guitar, I find it interesting that you keep going on about expecting people to try to better themselves and how they should work for what they want, yet this young lady was working her tail off to save up money for college - doing just what you propose people should be doing, and you still condemn her.

The pastor insisted that the server separate the checks to try to avoid paying the gratuity. However, unless it's changed from the brief time I worked there years ago, orders are placed by table number, so even getting separate checks doesn't fool the system into thinking you're not a group when you actually are.

Oh, oh, but the pastor left $6 cash on the table. We know it's true because she said so, and clearly this is a woman of high integrity (yeah - I actually made it through typing that without busting out laughing!).

What you're missing is that the server has no control on the gratuity. For parties of 6 or more, the 18% is automatically added per company policy.

I disagree. In every school across the country you will find a blend of different nationalities, with many children still speaking their native non-English tongue at home.
