It's probably nervous pacing.  After all, he is almost certainly going to go to prison for the rest of his life, and I don't think guys who kidnap and sexually assault chilsren are very high on the list of favorite people with the other inmates.

Good advice overall.  Inspiration and hope only go so far. After that, the real world takes over.  It may not be what people want to hear as they venture either into college or into the real world, but it is the truth.
