I liked the reboot of star trek. The next generation movies lost me a couple of times. Deep space nine and voyager were in a lot of ways more interesting then the next generation movies.  The series itself was good. As far as Star Wars goes, there is probably been over 100 books written in that universe.

As mentioned this is a brand new test. You also have to remember the other or most important safety device is the driver. As mentioned it would be nice to know how the cars have done on this test, or what other types of vehicles had been tested.
