My wife and I are uninsured since September when I was laid off from my school because the campus was closed. COBRA is too expensive. When your income has been drastically reduced, it is not the time to increase your insurance cost. Private individual insurance is even more costly and because of preexisting conditions ...more
I'm already taking my money out of BoA. Their involvement in causing the recession... the debit card fee was the last straw. My money is in a local credit union. Not only do they not charge fees for things that banks do, they have higher interest paid, better loan rates and their hands are clean as far as ethics violat...more
I agree the article is lame. All the suggestions are pretty obvious. I believe I did everything right but the market still ruined my IRA's. Now that I got laid off I have to withdraw savings just to live. There is nothing at all in the article that I could take and use to impove my situation. Nothing.
I think the reason the somewhat well off capitalists haven't joined us down at the Occupation is that things haven't gotten desperate for them yet. I lost about half my retirement during the crash but I wasn't looking to pick up a sign and walk in a march until I got laid off last month. This for me was the catalyst. T...more
Wonderful. So I should start buying stocks in basically sound companies. With what money? My savings was half wiped out by the crash. I was laid off last month and have yet to get my first unemployment check. I'm a career teacher with a masters degree. You want to hire me, pay me a living wage and include health care a...more

I am a participant in Occupy Houston but I definitley don't think we need to abolish banks or the stock market. We need to regulate them. ...more
The article is misleading. So $2 a day is somewhere between Oprah and starving to death but that doesn't make it Middle Class. I thought this was going to be about a revival of the American Middle Class. Nope. So back to the Occupation.
Barbara Walters was commenting on a word the Gov. Perry had painted on a rock in front of his hunting camp. She was commenting on what someone else had said. The word had already been used. I see nothing wrong with her use of the word. Had she been the originator of it. Had she just come out and said n- this or n- that...more
