And R&D is expensive and the economy of scale is not there. Cars are far cheaper to make when you have little R&D to do any you can spread fixed costs among 100s of thousands or millions of sales as compared to less than 10,000.
Infrastructure is not free. Are you willing to shell out hundreds of thousands if not millions to guild a station that no one uses? Why would anyone else?
