Best Buy's customer service is lacking. Tried to do an exchange for an item, which is only sold at Best Buy. Told the clerk "Got it as a Christmas present", but wanted some CDs instead. After telling the clerk that it was a Christmas present was asked "Do you have the receipt?" They really listen, don't they. They woul...more

After a bankruptcy many years ago, I tried applying for a car loan. I had 1 bad medical bill, for under a few hundred dollars, which plummeted my FICO score to the low 400's. The car loan of course charged maximum interest.   5 years later, the car was stolen. I had paid on time every month for 5 years. My score only...more

GE's corporate tax bill: Zero

I think a 0% tax bill for a company is not right. When I do taxes in my tax program, I have to do an AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax). I am an American and have been working in the country for many yerars. The tax system needs to be reformed to a flat tax rate. Period. You pay Federal Tax, State Tax, Sales Tax, Tax on you...more

The sweet upside of the AT&T/T-Mobile de...

AT&T is way too expensive already, and gouges their customers. $5 just to walk in and pay your bill. That's the cost of doing business. Rediculous. And their customer service sucks, when you call them, they don't even know if they have HSI at the location. I could see the box from my apartment!   When they come ou...more

That is for sure. My cat has cost me to the tune of over $7,000...I stopped counting. It can really hurt you in the long run if you don't get pet insurance (which I didn't have), but the vets weren't sure if she would live or die...BTW after doing bloodwork on her when I took her in, they said "We don't know why your c...more

Boy Jim, you said it...especially in the rare earth minerals department. I know someone who has interests in exploring and mining rare earth minerals, but there is so much red tape, and lobbyists and congressman having their back pockets padded by huge corporations there's no growth there. And that's big business. What...more

Jim Jubak: The jobs problem in the U.S....

Jobs is definitely an issue for America's future. People have to want to work. Companies need to strive to create new products and ideas, in order to have more business and put more people to work. I'm trying to start a company now, and, it actually had a nice ring to it, because I would be creating 13 new jobs. If the...more

Wal-Mart going after Whole Foods?

Any produce from outside the US at WalMart or Sams I just don't buy...it doesn't ripen right, it goes bad too quickly...it's as if the orchards haven't matured anough for the fruit to be sold, but yet as consumers we're supposed to look at it, think it's WalMart, and it's a deal. It's not a deal when you throw half of ...more

Online shopping: It's getting harder to...

I'm also setting up a web site to retail consumer products...I can't believe the markup that some of these other web sites have -- and that includes the big guys like Amazon and BestBuy, etc. -- on their products. I can see that I'm going to charge less for my products (I'm just a small shop; I don't need to rip people...more
