First make sure they are gnats and not fruit flies if this is happening in the house.  Fruit flies like water too.  I set out a bit of water with a drop of dishsoap in it.  That usually gets them.  Other than that smack them.  I use a spray bottle of GooGone.  It weights them down so you can squash them.  Probably work...more
