My mother for a few years had The Cole Mine of Books. Her Father-in-law was a coal miner, died in a coal mine in Southern Indiana.

Actually, the level of violence has been going down for a long time. Wars and other institutional violence have decreased sharply and in the USA violent crime has declined pretty much year by year for over twenty years. What has gone up is the reporting of such violent crime. What once was just in the local news is now...more

There is one factor, and only one factor, that should determine the wages (including all benefits) of any worker. The value of that worker to the employer. No other factor should have any weight. Thus, the minimum wage should be meaningless.

I had given much thought to starting a foundation that would teach people, and pay them, to kill reporters who ask stupid questions. But I quickly realized that journalism schools would just crank out more. Besides it would get me talked about.

I've gone a few times in the last half year or so. Sears continues to pay their employees who get called up from the Reserves or Guard and that is why I go. One of the Denny's here in Tucson allows people with guns in and has for a long time. I attend a meeting there every month and one member openly carries and I have no idea how many have CCW permits. And no, this is not some gun group it is a political party, the Libertarians.
