The City of Philadelphia reduced possession from a "permanent record" offense to something that disappears from one's criminal record once a small fine is paid and a four-hour class is attendee.  It saves them, one single city, $2 million a year in court costs.   Even outside of taxation, the economy would benefit....more

Go and take a look at rates of violent crime and murder among young adults over the past 30 years.  Know what you'll see?  A steady DECLINE in murders and violent assaults.   This is in spite of the fact that every violent video game that gets accused of creating killers, from Doom to Grand Theft Auto to Call of Duty...more

I believe that a lack of exercise, poor diet, and rage-related stress conspired to kill Andrew Breitbart.   In most of the pictures and video I've seen, the guy looks like he hasn't shaved or bathed in some time.  Not really too surprising that a guy who could barely manage his personal appearance couldn't manage a h...more

Prepaid cards: Tools for terrorists?

These things are great for buying "adult toys" and "herbal vaporizers" off the internet, without leaving a direct financial trail to the buyer.   Or, um, so I heard...

King of Beers dethroned?

Wow, Bud is a whole five percent?   Stone IPA is seven.   So, if you drank a six-pack of Bud, that's the equivalent alcohol content of four Stone IPAs.   A case of Bud is the equivalent of 16 Stone IPAs.   Conversely, a case of Stone IPA is the equivalent of  1.5 cases of Budweiser.   At Costco, the...more

Cities, states use speeding ticket fines...

I was in Washington state a few weeks ago, heading south on I-5.  I come over the crest of a hill, and as I'm travelling downhill, I notice that there's a car accelerating on the side of the road, getting ready to rejoin traffic. maybe 1/4 mile ahead.  I put on my blinker, check my mirrors, and move over to make sure h...more

Oh, and get this blurb from the latest Car & Driver:   Fourteen-thousand folks have already laid down earnest money to secure a Camaro, but we hope none of them is taller than five-ten. That’s because the roof has been seriously slammed. If you’ve got anything resembling Dog the Bounty Hunter’s pompadour, prepare to ...more

Great, an Australian car manufactured in Canada....and the "Buy American!" crowd is going nuts?  When Hondas are made in Ohio, Toyotas are made in Kentucky, and Nissans are made in Tennessee, which one is the more "American" car company, exactly?   On another note, as impressive as the new Camaro is, it's yet another...more
