Why you shouldn't retire at age 66

With every government message being, we're keeping entitlements, then why should i wourk any longer to bail them out?   My advice to pending retirees is: > If you're planning on retirement, take the lump sum option if available. They can't keep it from you if you already have it in hand.   > Take advantage of...more

Airlines keep stacking up the fees

Instead of asking me to pay additional for "services", why don't the airlines offerme a discount for avoiding extra cost items? Give me $25 off for only having one carry-on bag, give me $5 for avoidance of all airline food/snacks -- I'll provide my own. And limit the flight attendants to 1 or 2 per plane, as you won't ...more

It's kind of stupid to suggest that we need to find a new home, when we haven't found an acceptable option within our capability to get there. Yes, there are many dangers in the universe that could present themselves as a world ending event. But, as we yet are in our infancy in space exploration and travel, I for one w...more

For workers at CVS, body fat can be cost...

Rather than penalizing personnel for not meeting their profile, you'd think they would make this a "bonus" for each person who met their criteria. Same objective, but a better result.

Against the advice of several, I have taken several small loans against my 401(k) plan to take care of short term debts. Guess what? I'm getting a decent interest rate, and given the volatility of the markets over the past 7 years, I've actually gotten better returns from paying myself back than several of the funds I'...more

Let's see if the generation of kids gets the wake up call that Mom & Dad aren't unlimited. My daughter has been forced to look for a new job, and we are being patient (she's really striving to find a workable solution). I can provide a roof over her head, and some support for food, but I'm also 58 and facing having to ...more

Deals, earnings push stocks higher

It is truly incredible that all this stimulus money went to government agencies and political agenda items without truly doing anything to help the jobs situation. And on top of this, the increased spending has been flowing freely and nobody has the consensus idea of how to move forward. It should be simple -- roll bac...more

Why you should love $5 gas

I find no cause to champion a $5 gas price. the rationale is clear:   > Government gets huge revenue from current gas taxes, yet these are not used to improve supply situation. It's like all the toll booths we have to collect more money so we can afford to pay for the toll booth personnel. A VICOUS CYCLE.   > Y...more

Stocks jump, but questions linger

GM (i.e. US Motors these days) completely allowed the few shares I had in the company to be declared worthless. So I care not for how they fare in the future. I am not sure how many $40,000 Volts they'll need to sell to keep afloat, but I do think it's a travesty that the US government keeps hawking a $7500 taxpayer cr...more
