Higher taxes haven't hurt the rich at al...

Geesh. Anyone out there surprized to see this?   WHY exactly would anyone really think that raising the taxes on the rich would much, if at all, affect their spending patterns or amounts?  Hogwash.   Really, folks.  Most people can only spend so much in a year.  Once you are in the many - hundred - thou take-ho...more

2400 saved by age 6?  Gonzo!   Please.  Why do we have to get bombarded by this crappola?  WHAT kid aged 0 - 6 does anything that nets that child 2400 bucks?   I mean hey, that kid could have been paid an allowance of about 8 bucks per week FOR LIFE to 6 to "save" that amount.    And NO, having sharp-eyed kids...more

More Americans than ever using food stam...

Pretty simple.   IF almost 50 million Americans now qualify for food-stamps, AND that qualification has a pretty hard income cap at about 130% of poverty for a family of three (the article states this cut-off as being about 25000 / year), that means we have a LOT of "not overly well-of" folks in this United States....more

How FUN!   OK.  It's the "Law of Unintended Consequences" at work...   The younger folks would (certainly SHOULD) want their elders to get out of the jobs and move over and retire - so that they will have a chance to work and save for THEIR turn at the retirement trough.   But every other noise is about try...more

Senator: Should hourly minimum wage be $...

There seems quite a lot of sentiment out there about "productivity" and "wages"!   Lots of anger and screaming and put-me-downs and castigations about all those workers who are not even "worth" what they get today for "min wage", let alone the inflationary and terryifying aspect of the (not actually ever proposed) idea...more

Retirement crisis ahead for boomers and...

"Americans aren't saving enough to retire, with 57% of U.S. workers reporting less than $25,000 in total household savings and investments, excluding their homes,..."   and...  "...as 28% said they have no confidence they'll be able to retire comfortably, up from 23% just last year. "   Even if this is somewhat...more

Senator: Should hourly minimum wage be $...

Start with:  Professor Dube was NOT saying "min wage" should necessarily be ca $22 - but that ALL workers are really being paid a much lesser share of the gains made over years in productivity, while "management" is raking in ever-larger shares of the total production.    Dr. Dube's revelations mirror what most fo...more

Are baby boomers stealing the country's...

@bearbry...;  " There has been no fund or account that they "payed into for at least 50 years!  Your checks are funded by the current generations salary taxes.  That's why S.S. is an entitlement because it's funded by a salary tax.  So you Seniors can stop playing stupid now."   You know... YOU may be RIGHT, at lea...more

Are baby boomers stealing the country's...

Hey!  DON'T steal anything, and not from your children!    What part of your Social Security program did you not understand going into it?  Did you not agree up front that you would pay in part of your pay FOR LIFE?  Did you NOT expect that the "pay-back" for paying this FICA tax all your working life was that YOU...more
