You don't have to "do the deed" to be gay. If you have an emotional and physical attraction to the same sex, then one can be counted as gay.

Whenever I go shopping at the mall and retailer asks for any of my information I politely say "no thank you." I've gotten weird looks and some have told me that they need it to complete the purchase [I still refuse to give it to them]. They should just make sure the purchase is actually being paid for.
