Maybe an article like this should be aimed at a high school youngster. They might need 60 years to be able to put the scratch together. By then $1M may be worth around $20K today. When you're already in your 50s, advice such as the article is pretty worthless.

People, especially single people, or those who don't care to live with their adult children, should also consider a communal arrangement with a small group of friends. The space needs to be adequate to accomodate everyone's needs but everyone can share expenses and responsibilities in a group home situation.
