The A-10 is going to eventually be replaced by the F-35, but not in the near future (or so I'm told). The A-10 is supposed to be in service until 2028.

I didn't say they would rethink it, I just had some wishful thinking. Of course they might spend billions of dollars on its development before realizing its not going to meet mission needs, and then cancelling it.

If it won't be designed to survive taking a hit in combat, then hopefully it will have sufficient deensive armanment in order to avoid taking a hit.
