It would make more sense to offer these homes as homesteads. If a person can improve the property and pay the property taxes, then they should get the homes for free. Sounds like a win-win to me. I love my $1000 beater. It's a great car (89 Acura Legend) and has proven to be reliable. I wouldn't trade it for a nicer car with payments; no way. The money I save every month is worth the extra maintenance, and it's cheaper to insure.

Yet another beautiful illustration of how messed up our system is. I don't know why anyone would think that an unemployed person would be willing to pay 80% of their income for health insurance like COBRA. It's a freakin' joke!! Our system is out of control.
