I always joked about this day would come.  The EPA tried to pass a gas tax on farm animals.  $20 a year for a hog to take a dump, and $75  a year for  a cow to take a dump.  As of now,  I don't think it passed.  I always said, if it did pass next they would be taxing people.  Pretty soon there will be no paycheck left....more

I am so glad to see these comments!!   We are hog and grain farmers in Southern Il.  We butcher our own meat and have  a huge garden, freeze the extra and can some also.  Have some chickens running around for eggs.  I realize not everyone can do this.  However, farmers markets are wonderful!!.  Buying in bulk and freez...more

to vstar 1300   I agree!!  we are hog and grain farmers in southern il and my husband is also a volenteer firefighter. I have always felt that way for years.  So many people complain about doctor bills and hospital bills, however, they go to concerts and ball games and have no problem spending $8 on a beer!
