Florida is nice to visit in January.  But most of the year it is unbearably hot. I would not retire there even if the housing were free, and there were no taxes.

We get taxed more than the official taxes.  The Fed expands the money supply to accommodate the Federal borrowing.  This results in inflation, which acts like a sales tax on all of us.  Inflation reduces our purchasing power, and gives that purchasing power to the printer of the money. George W Bush spent way too much money.  He greatly increased the Fed spending.  But, the borrow and spend policy has been the standard for over 60 years.  And the debt just keeps rising.  Even if we never had the Bush tax cuts our debt would be rising.

Anyway, the topic is whether or not the Bush tax cuts helped or hurt the economy.  I would say that the Bush tax cuts were not a significant factor in the economic growth.  Tax cuts generally help the economy.  But tax rates were not repressive before the Bush tax cuts, so the tax cuts did not remove a problem.  There ...more

Previous recoveries have been stronger, and created jobs faster.  This is the slowest weakest jobs recovery in modern history.  The second worst recovery for job creation was the early 2000s.

I find it humorous (and disturbing) how so many people think our president and congress have so much power over the economy. The Federal government is usually only about 20% of the economy.  The other 80% dwarfs the federal government.  What the rest of us do dwarfs the federal government.  And the president control...more
