I think the biggest idiots are people who watch CNN and other outlets and buy or sell based on commentators advice--along with a horde of other buyers and sellers, of course, which negates any good advice. I'm glad that MY tax dollars didn't go to fund this study (I'm in the US). But of course many other studies just as silly are being funded with US taxpayer dollars right now, so I'm not that glad.
This is the kind of journalism you get when there are too many journalists chasing too few stories. But we already knew that, of course, and much worse examples are in the news every week. They're much worse because they're put out as serious stories, but are just like this thing.
So don't buy those seeds, there are plenty of competitors. And all they seem to provide is resistance to a herbicide, which also has alternatives and competitors. Most seeds are not genetically altered (beyond the normal selective breeding techniques) so there are alternatives.
