If the problem is parents took out loans for children/grandchildr en, then they need to start hitting up those same individuals to provide the difference. As for people who are still paying from a college experience 30+ years ago, I have a real hard time understanding how 30 years yields no results.

It's a shame that these sort of scare tactic articles continue to be written instead of more articles showing people how to enjoy life at a lower price without giving up quality and also that the vast majority of retirees never even get close to having a million dollars to draw down.

Didn't they try the exact same thing with the Alternative Minimum Tax? Look how that turned out. This "Buffett Rule" will suffer the same fate unless indexed for inflation. Also, they should abolish the AMT at the same time.
I suppose this idea deserves consideration, but it also needs to be watched very carefully.
