I told my  boss I quit, right before this said I was fired.  I said not, I quit first and HR backed up my position.  So I've never been fired to this date.  That was 36 years ago.  Then as I walked out I said "take this job ans shove it".  I had joined the Navy and was going in in 2 weeks.  LOL

How Obama's budget trims Social Security...

Raising the min SS tax is a good Idea.  The polotician do not pay into this and it has no affect on their benifits.  Let's take away the BS benifits that politicians get or prorate it based on yrs of service, like the military.  They are public servant and should get something for serving.  Reduce that would help.

Obama says no to fat retirement accounts

Good point.  My comment above also shows that much of the money growing interest free could have already been taxed.  You can't get a Pre-Tax IRA or 401k that big with PRe-Tax contributions.  Bo is trying to lower the amount of tax defered money to get the Taxes sooner than later.  Still the gov'mt lying and breaking p...more

Obama says no to fat retirement accounts

What the article does not cover is the fact that anyone that has Mill$$$ in a IRA, the majority of it may be in a after tax IRA.  That is legal to do.  In pretax IRA, one can only put so much in per year, and company 401k have rules for maximum contibutions also.  So this is a little mis leading thinking ALL IRA over a...more

Obama says no to fat retirement accounts

I somewhat agree with most posts, that socialism is not good, thats what this looks like.  But there are limits at all Company sponsored 401k.  That the upper 50% of earners cannot contribute more than the lower 50% of workers by contibution.  This was meant to balance the compaany contibutions so the upper paid people...more

If people would learnd to live withing their means, debt would not be an issue.  It is not about rich getting richer.  That is going to happen, cause most uneducated, low skill working people do not know how to make money and time work.  It was not taught in Blue class working people's homes.  I know.  But I did the Am...more

Some fact speak for themselves.  Yes, the past had different promises for those just older than me.  pensions, SS and able to live the American dream into retirement.  I, like many others of my Gen, did not trust the Gvm't or big companies.  Both lied to the American people, to either make more money or flat our "big h...more

IMHO, Rental property is a risk.  Depending on the location and the environment.  Resort property is a risk, but not a money maker. Good vacation payoff, but if the property does not go up, at best you break even.  I still say what I learned in the 80's was to use other people money, to some extent.  Pay by credit card...more

OMG.  177K to live on.  That will barely be enough to blow your nose.  For most people, that will not work in high cost areas.  I have over 1.4 Mil and don't think that is enought.  But IMHO, the key to retirement is controlling cost.  Something the Gvm't doen't understand.   If you can controll your cost , then the mo...more
