I stopped at a Taco Bell a couple of days ago for the first time in years. I bought a 7 layer burrito, and I couldn't believe how bland it was. All these places are so focused on the bottom line, that they've forgotten that they have to please the customer. It's not like dining out is a necessity.
I like reading Popular Mechanics magazines from the 20's and 30's to see how people used to entertain themselves building things. Growing up, most of my neighbors had a shop or workbench with a project going on. Me too.
I went to an auction at a local high school that was selling off the contents of their shop class. Seems that the kids preferred computers to hands on. It made me wonder who they were going to get to fix things when they got broken.
It is a weed. Half way across Illinois on I-80 you can see it growing by the side of the road. You can see it by the side of the road all the way to Nebraska.

With the "Bottom Line" as everyone's holy grail, there is no incentive to innovate and bring costs down.
