Really they don't. They have a smell to them, but not the skunk smell you are thinking of. They don't smell bad at all, or I wouldn't let ours in bed with us. Since he started biteing, we don't anymore anyway.
Be carefull, raccoons are really strong and do get mean. They can attack before you can blink an eyeball, and really tear you to shreds. Cute critters, but don't trust them.
we have had several, none de-scented. They don't really want to spray unless they have to. More imprtant, is to get them nuetered or they get really mean in the spring.
We have had one for 5 years now. Ours is fully armed, but has never sprayed. He does bite though. We found out that more important than getting them de-sented is to get them nuetered. We never could find a vet to do it. They get really mean at breeding time in spring if you don't. He get's more friendly as the year go...more
