You make some good, rational points Larry. To the complainers, it's like any job.  You should know what you're getting into before you accept the job.  Government work has positives and negatives.

Having to pay for your own health care sucks.  The government should pay for health care.   Wait...

So how many jobs are you willing to work to pay the taxes to support that level of salary and benefits?

It's not lagging behind actual inflation numbers, not by a longshot.  Now it may well be lagging behind whatever made up number you think inflation really is, I can't speak to that.

It's not at all unusual for careers to require constant relocation in the private sector as well.  One spouse's career goals almost always have to be subordinate to the other's.

Most people agree that our government spends too much.  Most people think we don't pay the military nearly enough.  The problem should be obvious.
