the tipping rule is between 15 and 20%. Tip on the total of your bill. Do not do the math and try to determine what the server will make in 1 hour and decide it is too much. Under the current system tip the tab or stay home. i am in favor of stopping tipping altogether and paying a decent wage.

The only industry when the customer directly subsidizes the wags of the employees. Do away with tipping and pay a living wage. High end waiters and waitresses will not like this as they are making high tips that are not all reported.
