So the part of the economy that the government can't touch is saving the economy. Just think what the economy would do if the government would get out of everyone's way.
Using her logic, what should a computer or tv be selling for today? If companies could raise the cost of their products accordingly it would work however who is going to pay $25,000 for a tv?
Problem is we are competiting against companies that sell products made by workers making much less. If our labor cost is higher, then our product will cost more and the consumer will stop buying it and the company will go out of business.
Here is a basic concept in economics. If the price increases for a product (i.e. labor) the demand decreases. The more expensive labor is the greater the economic incentive to invest in morelabor saving equipment that puts more people out of work.
If Obama's goal is to create jobs and spread the wealth it would be easy to do. Cut the minimum wage in half, employers can hire twice as many workers. Another problems solved, more people working and the wealth spread around.
The reason productivity has increased is the major investments made by companies in new machines, computers, robot, etc. The worker today actually does not work as hard a one did 50 years ago.
If raising the minimum wage is the solution, why not raise it to $125 an hour and everyone would be making at least $250,000 per year and we would all be rich. Now it that sounds crazy how about $120 or $115. If one number is crazy any number is crazy because the underlying logic is flawed.
