I think growing up on a farm (like I did) helps because there are different kinds on animal deaths (sickness, for food, old age, etc). From a young age you accept it. My daughter used washable markers on my husbands bald head while he was sleeping. He ended up with a garden landscape on his head. Kept her busy for a an hour.

It happened to me and my husband also. Neither one of us wanted to be on this blind date but we had to go with this other couple. But he thought it would be interesting to date me again & it worked and we haven't been apart since in 21 years. We jsut laugh about it.

I had to throw away a 6oz bottle of BBQ glaze because I forgot about it and packed it in my suitcase but they can't find a cat?!?! Also I would notice if I packed my cat. He would be screaming and clawing his way out before I got out the door.
