Actually, any blanket statement like "do not invest pre-tax money" is going to be wrong most of the time.  It sounds like you may have been better off paying taxes on some of your savings as you earned it, but unless you have an extremely odd situation, if you had put none of your money in a tax deferred account you wo...more

Father furious after finding crayon-writ...

This isn't necessarily "left" or "right".  If you apply this to the 2nd amendment it could imply a more traditionally left viewpoint.  If you're talking about due process, search/seizure issues, then you might link it to the Patriot act.   If you reverse the first two words of that crayoned note and put a question ...more

6 proven ways to make a dishonest living

"And the next time you encounter someone who says there's no need for any sort of government regulation, send them a link to this article."   More regulation won't necessarily help.  Those with no morals or ethics won't be prevented from scamming people.  It may reduce it somewhat for fear of criminal prosecution, ...more

Fight the Fed by owning gold

"For some reason, thinking about this potentially overhyped "New Economy" concept losing the entire value of GLD really struck a note with me."    What this tells me is that there is not nearly enough gold in the world for it to be an effective store of value.  If everyone put even a small percentage of their savin...more

This is FULL of misinformation.   The company match sounds like a no brainer, but if it will take more than 3 years to pay off debts that have an interest rate of 22%, you might be better off skipping the company match.  The match adds 50% to the gain of each contribution for the first year, but the 22% interest yo...more
