I've driven both CA-1 from Monterey to San Luis Obispo and around Mt. Desert Island. The crown has to go to CA-1. Mt. Desert Island is beautiful, but the drive down CA-1 is downright SPECTACULAR.   I've also driven down the Oregon coast and I'd still rate that above Mt. Desert Island.
