The true market lies in hypocrisy.

People are selfish, with or without capitalism.  Capitalism pulls back the curtain that normally hides that selfishness and allows people to operate within this truth openly, but with oversight.  The only thing worse than capitalism is any other system.  Since there are no better options, it is the only logical option.
