Thanks, Liz, for telling the TRUTH about Social Security.  The only thing you did NOT specify is that workers with Green Cards (i.e., NOT illegals), CAN collect Social Security  disability or retirement benefits if they contribute Social Security taxes for the required 40 quarters (10 years), just like the rest of us. ...more

"Putting the house in the kid's name" is also called something else - Gift Tax Fraud, which has NO statute of limitations!!  When I interned at the IRS, they were investigating a taxpayer who had made unreported gifts in the 1950's!  Do-It-Yourself estate planning like that is penny-wise and thousands foolish.

I don't know what island "OnAnIsland" is on, but here in the rest of the good old US, Roth IRAs are NOT exempt from inheritance taxes!  Federal Estae Tax always applies, although some states may consider Roths to be exempt from their STATE'S death taxes.   And, "Bentovillian," don't be so paranoid - the gov't CANNO...more

I don't know what island "ONANISLAND" is on, but in the rest of the US, Roth IRAs are NOT exempt from inheritance taxes!  Federal Estate Tax always applies, though some states may treat Roths as exempt from STATE death taxes (only).
