Most employers had policies against hiring women even when they had degrees in STEM fields.

Also, one has to complete at least H.S. No dropping out just because you want to, or because of teenage pregnancy. Abortion & adoption are viable alternatives. Post-secondary education will also help, and student loans are readily available. You don't have to come from money to continue past H.S.
