Multi level concepts here. My latest friend is very needy and fragile. I like her as a person, but I cannot risk being responsible for her happiness, or unhappiness. I keep my distance.

Often older furniture will need repairs.  Glue joints fail and need to be fixed. This takes time and skill to do properly.  I would not appreciate spending ten hours restoring something, only to give it back.
