Saying that a $1 today, with compounding interest, will multiply 2, 4, or 8 times by retirement is not true.  Look at today's interest rates on CDs and IRAs.  You are lucky to earn 1.25% with a jumbo.  That interest earned won't pay the price of a postage stamp or for a tank of gas down the road.
