Social security still provides basic survival money, but a retired person today probably needs at least $200,000 ($400,000 per couple) to live decently. With the interest rates today and the uncertainty of the stock market, the top priority is to find a decent rate of return on your investment. That's the trick. One...more
Boy, I used to think the Chicago police department was bad! It just goes to show that no matter how many surprises you see in life, there's still more surprises out there.
I'm lovin' it! I remembered when McDonald's first started in the 1950's. I'm 67 years old, and the first McDonald's in Chicago (not Oak Brook, the Chicago suburb where it all started) was at 66th and Stony Island Avenue, in 1958. If you take the position that an off-duty cop has more authority than the rest of us, then you should also demand that they never drink alcohol or take drugs because this would interfere with their judgement. Would you agree?
I just had to make another comment on this. Many of you folks keep bringing up the falsehood that police officers are held to a higher standard than the rest of us. In general, they're held to no standard at all. You can't find a police officer in this country who has been convicted of 1st degree murder and got a li...more
That's what you call enforcing the law fairly and consistently - no special privileges for police officers. They must be subject to the same laws as the rest of us. I would go 1 step further. On every police force in this country, I would require off-duty police officers have no more rights than any other citizen. ...more
