My hunt for health insurance

Congratulations to the author on finding insurance he could afford.  For many of us the choice is between insurance or food, and that's assuming a company can be found that won't reject us.  I had to drop coverage after the financial crash and a few years of double digit premium increases.  I've come to think of health...more

Carry-on fee can cost more than flight

Flying on any airline has become a test of strength and patience for consumers.  The cost with additional fees makes driving or taking the train a more desirable and less expensive option in many cases.  Throw in the Homeland Security folks and you'll spend a chunk of your vacation or business trip in the airport. I'm financially exhausted.  I planned carefully and live modestly, and now feel like a fool.  All that work and saving for what?  The banks, mortgage companies, and Wall Street stole a big chunk from me and are getting away with it. 7 ways to pay bills online for free

I'd love to pay all bills online but I have one major problem.  My mortgage is held by one of the big five major banks.  Because I have no other accounts with them (and I don't want another account with them) I'm charged an extra $10 monthly to pay my own bill online.  Consequently, they get a paper check every month. ...more

The real cost of living: $150,000 a year

@thisplanet The tax code does a lot of silly things but stimulating investments shouldn't be one of them.  I'm glad there are people who make money investing.  Taxes, however, are for the good of all citizens.  Taxes should be used for building infrastructure, good schools, decent roads, and all things for the good ...more
