Not mentioned is the eroded purchasing power of our devalued dollar because of the excessive stimulus and debt by the Fed, though it was losing value throughout the 2000s as well.

It's a PARTY costume people, a Halloween party. Context matters. Maybe not the smartest move in hindsight, but still, people dress up as all kinds of things for parties.
Umm, both sides of the political aisle insult the other side, not just one. I've seen CNN do it too, as well as newspaper opinion writers; but I agree with your basic premise that we are not always setting a good example ourselves.
