She's just retreading an old subject. Every so often, someone starts blaming violence on television, music, video games or some other thing and until a concrete and indisputable link is found, it will be blown off as just another sensationalistic puff piece.
I do not believe that video games in and of themselves promote violent behavior. I'd clean up my credit, buy a new car and house, and then whatever's left would go in the bank to be part of my current monthly budget. It's depressingly practical but at this stage, I'd rather not splurge unless I was sure it wasn't going to bite me in the rear.
My take on the story is that the family tried time and again to help him in good faith but he appears to have shown little to no interest in getting clean. It's hard to feel a lot of sympathy for her situation since she lucked into more money than a lot of people will ever see in a lifetime. Hopefully, she's learned a lesson about money management and has set up a budget so she can stretch whatever income she now has.
