To reply to In Deep-Red.  You're not alone, this is a common problem that a lot of my clients have faced as well!  There are federal and state laws in place in regards to old debt.  The laws do state that a collection or bad debt can remain on your credit files for typically 7 years, 10 years for bankruptcy or judgemen...more
