A very accurate observation.   Early U.S. brides got married in their best dress.  The idea of wearing something hugely impractical--pure white and only worn once--was definitely borrowed from the wealthy classes.

What always makes me wonder, when I read articles such as this, is how awful must it be in these people's home countries that they would rather live like a servant, suffer in a sweatshop, live in agony as a sex slave, than go to the authorities and run the risk of being deported back home.

Oddly, I think I have read that Stockholm does allow female circumcision, if it is done in a hospital under sterile conditions???  What's the point of allowing women to flash their boobs in public if in private they are allowing female mutilation?
