Open carry... I'm unfamiliar with guns, but why does my gut tell me this would bring the equation into balance.

The mother told the babysitter, "do not turn your back on Adam." Therefore, how did she square having weapons in the house with such a child.

But when the gunman's finger is on the trigger; and he asks himself, "should I or shouldn't I," then in that moment he makes a split second decision.  A decision he would not have to make if he did not have a gun in his hand.
