Borax sprinkled on my bathroom floor and cleaned up with a wet rag is the only non-smelly, non-toxic cleaner I've ever found that will remove the non-aerosol hairspray film that settles on the floor. This is important, because my bathroom is windowless so I will not use anything toxic or smelly in there.

Well, the problem is that if government leaders don't get adequately paid, they tend to use their position to get money in other ways...through corruption. Granted, there is corruption now, but nowhere near on the scale it would be if we paid them like we pay teachers.
People who are determined to become wealthy are the problem, because, unchecked (as our wealthy elite have been), they eventually gain control over the whole of society. And they are not interested in letting newcomers into their privileged circles. Sounds like you have just run into that brick wall.
