A previous employer has major limitations on what they can say. I know that all I can say about a ex-employee is: Yes they worked here, The amount of time they worked here, and if I would ever hire them back. Anything else and I would be sued.

Imagine if the headline was "Teen shoots five, cops did nothing as teen walked the streets with rifle". Everybody would be posting about the police not stopping somebody on the street with a gun.
