Sorry, but I don't feel sorry for you.  There are more then enough people who don't perform their own car maintenance for auto shops to make money.  If you can't make a living doing it, that's your own fault.  I'm not putting anyone out of business by doing my own work.

That's great, but I don't do it to save money (it's a nice benefit though).  I do it to make sure it's done right and because it's fun.    I also enjoy hearing the guys at the dealership telling me "YOU CAN'T DO THAT YOURSELF!"  Sorry, I already did.

Thank you Mr. Obvious.   The point is that they are loosing money on each sale NOW.  Look at the Toyota Prius.  It lost Toyota a ton of money when it was first new.  However, they got their name out in the market and now it's a major seller which is important, because the Prius now generates a profit for Toyota. ...more
