Sorry, but I don't feel sorry for you. There are more then enough people who don't perform their own car maintenance for auto shops to make money. If you can't make a living doing it, that's your own fault. I'm not putting anyone out of business by doing my own work.
That's great, but I don't do it to save money (it's a nice benefit though). I do it to make sure it's done right and because it's fun.

From my experience, it isn't the brighter lights that are a problem. It's that people don't know how to properly aim their lights. Some idiots discover that they can see farther if they aim their lights higher, not realizing that they are blinding everyone else.

The point is that they are loosing money on each sale NOW. Look at the Toyota Prius. It lost Toyota a ton of money when it was first new. However, they got their name out in the market and now it's a major seller which is important, because the Prius now generates a profit for Toyota.
