HP hardly has the best PCs available.  The best ones available are ones you build yourself.  A lot more ability for the same price.  You can put together a mid tower I3 with a 1 TB drive, 4 GB of RAM and a decent video card for $500.

Lap Tops won't die, they'll just become niche because of the things you stated.  Businesses that required CAD design and other graphics intensive programs and require mobility will still need high end lap tops.  As well as those that game but want some portability. You won't be able to do that on a tablet anytime soon.
