It was ONE day people, not a week.  If you read the story you will see that they had NO snow days to  make up this year and that's what made it possible to give them this one day. Do none of you ever just need a day off work to regain your own sanity? I doubt very much that their education suffered over one day.

I think it's a great idea. Having months of gloomy darkness would be depressing. I don't think their education is going to suffer over one day.
