Lots of schools do use sci-fi books as assigned reading--books like Brave new World, Frankenstein, Fahrenheit 451, etc. are all technically sci-fi.

School is 5 hours in the standard 9 am to 3:30 pm elementary school. 2 recess breaks =30 minutes lunch break=1 hr
