The credit bureaus are regulated by the banks not the dealers. Most dealers would always want to get you the lowest rate so they have the ability to offer more finance products. There is zero value to rate unless you are a bank! You should always know where you stand before you consider any type of purchase.
A dealer is required to give you a "credit score disclosure" so you should know your score before you go in the finance office. I'm pretty sure Equifax charges everyone for a score. If you pay a higher rate it could actually be because that is what the bank is charging you. Hopefully the world is transparent enough...more
