in my opinion the 5'3 is the best engine for these vehicles. mine has developed a small iol leak and it does rattle some at start up ,but hey it does have 300000+ and it is still strong 500000 maybe only time will tell good luck . my '74 olds cutlass has 144000. it may make 200000 one day uses no oil and runs strong 35...more

My '03 silverado 1500 with 5.3  has 310000 at present, no major problems, regular maintenance...STILL chevy strong!!!

in addition: my silverado has the 5.3 engine   regular oil changes   no major repairs   throttle body, water pump, and regular maaintenance

my 2003 silvarado 1500 has 309850 at present original drivetrain  ,, STILL chevy strong!!!!!

they're made in china along witheverything else , what a shame ...need i say more?
